about

A half hour channeling session invoked by human breath. Lungs push forth force and conjure temporary and overlapping tones to trance out to. Let these sounds set your ears afloat and transport you to a new consciousness. Presented by Ben Hall, who studied W. African percussion with Jumma Santos and trapset and precognition with Milford Graves at Bennington College, where he also worked with Bill Dixon on his last small group recordings. Hall is currently a research fellow at the Center for the Advancement of Public Action at Bennington College.

"The composition Windbag (for 36 sets of Lungs) is an answer to the question of what’s the most mutually accessible sound making process across cultures and ability. The answer is breath. The composition was made as a way to involve as many performers as possible and to look at a future that includes the reduced ability to execute as a performer. This piece was first performed in 2012 as part of Rirkrit Tiravanija’s Making Without Objects class at Columbia University. The recording on this release is a combination of a recording during that class as well as a performance at MOCAD, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, in 2015. Performers include Rirkrit Tiravanija, Sebastian Black, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Rachel Rose, Austin Martin White, Andrew Mehall, and W. Kim Heron."
